PRESS RELEASE
- It is with profound sadness and anguish thatI, Mr. Slumber Tsogwane, Acting President of the Republic of Botswana, have the burden of informing the citizens of Botswana, residents and the international community about the passing on of Honourable Mr. Dumezweni Meshack Mthimkhulu, yesterday, on 2nd September, 2024. Honourable Mthimkhulu breathed his last at Sedilega Hospital in Gaborone, where he had been hospitalised for some time to receive clinical care. The late Mr. Mthimkhulu was the passionate, courageous and gutsy Honourable Minister of Environment and Tourism at the time of his death.
- Furthermore, the late Honourable Mr. Mthimkhulu, a lawyer by training and an attorney of theHighCourt, became the Member of Parliament for Gaborone South Constituency following his electoral victory in the 2019 General Elections. Subsequently, he was appointed by His Excellency the President Dr. Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi to serve as the Assistant Minister for State President, a position in which he acquitted himself efficiently and effectively until his redeployment as a Minister of the Ministry of Environment and Tourism in February 2024.
- We profoundly appreciate the dedicated service and contribution that our departed fellow, patriotic citizen made to our wonderful Republic of Botswana in the various roles he played during his life's sojourn on mother Earth, that has now been cut short while we still expected more from him.
- On behalf of His Excellency the President Dr. Masisi and his family, and on behalf of my own family and I, as well as on behalf of the Government of Botswana, Cabinet, Parliament, and the nation at large, I solemnly send prayers to the late Mr. Mthimkhulu's family, relatives and friends, wishing them the comfort from Almighty God during this difficult time of their loss. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
- As regards any information on the holding of prayers and a memorial service, together with funeral arrangements, such will be communicated to the public in due course, after due consultation with the bereaved family.
