The Acting President, Mr Ndaba Gaolathe has assured members of the 5th Ntlo ya Dikgosi of the governmentβs commitment to restore and uphold Dikgosiβs dignity.
Speaking at the official opening of the 5th NyD orientation in Palapye on Tuesday, Mr Gaolathe said the government recognizes Dikgosi as key stakeholders in nation building.
He said the nation is faced with social ills such as Gender Based Violence (GBV), in which women are mostly victims, and it is one of the roles of Dikgosi to ensure the safety of women.
Mr Gaolathe said the political leadership alone cannot achieve the role of nation building without the input of Dikgosi.
On other issues, the Acting President said the new government comes into power at a time when the national coffers are almost empty. He said as a result the government cannot implement some of its plans.
He said he is however, optimistic that things will normalize adding that as a way of normalizing the situation there is need to ensure all institutions are functional.
Mr Gaolathe said additionally, state owned enterprise are revived and the government is currently working on identifying ideal partners to help resuscitate the economy.
In his welcome remarks, the Chairperson of NyD, Kgosi Malope II congratulated the Acting President and his government for winning the general elections in October.
Kgosi Malope II thanked Batswana for showing the spirit of botho during the elections and ushering a peaceful transition of power.
Additionally, Kgosi Malope II thanked the former President for the smooth handing-over of the baton to the current President.
He promised the Acting President that Ntlo ya Dikgosi will work cordially with the government of the day. βAs Dikgosi we have to be always apolitical and give you feedback on what our communities aspire and say without taking partisan lines,β said Kgosi Malope II.
He said the 4-day NyD orientation will capacitate members on how to craft questions and motions, emotional intelligence, protocol and etiquette.
Kgosi Malope II said the orientation incorporates excursions that will accord Dikgosi a chance to appreciate government projects geared towards uplifting the communities.
The Chairperson also advocated for a joint retreat between Ntlo ya Dikgosi and Office of the President in order to foster a formidable strategic partnership between the two stakeholders. Ends Publications
