Members of the 5th Ntlo ya Dikgosi (NyD), Wednesday, visited Botswana International University of Science and Technology (BIUST). Welcoming the members of NyD, BIUST Acting Vice Chancellor, Mr Davies Tele thanked Dikgosi for their visit. He said the visit underscores the importance of dialogue between leadership and institutions. He said BIUST was established in 2006 as a research-intensive university, specialized in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Mr Tele said the university started operating in 2012 in Oodi and became operational in Palapye in 2014 and is situated on a piece of property measuring 2500 hectares. He said BIUST is faced with challenges such as shortage of students’ accommodation inadequate funding. He, however, said despite the challenges the university was rated position one in 2023 and 2024 consecutively. He said the university enrolls 2600 students with 300 graduating annually. In his remarks, Kgosi Malope II said through the mandate of NyD, which is oversight amongst others, Dikgosi can make representation to the President, table a motion or ask questions that can help address some of the challenges faced by BIUST. The trip to BIUST is one of the exercussions aimed at according Dikgosi opportunity to appreciate government projects geared towards uplifting communities. Ends
