The Speaker of National Assembly, Hon Dithapelo L Keorapetse, today, 28th took Parliament to the people in Selibe-Phikwe at Kagiso Kgotla. This marked his second tour after Serowe, where the Speaker is opening Parliament doors to the public through Taking Parliament to the People initiative. The Initiative is part of the Parliament Public Participation Model, and is one of the many ways that Parliament reaches out to the public to interact educate, consult and get feedback from Batswana with regards to the role of Parliament and its functions. Taking Parliament to the people initiative has always been a Parliament initiative where Speakers get in touch with the nation that they serve. The initiative has in the past covered Goodhope, Sefhare, Palapye, Tati West, Francistown South, and Nata-Gweta areas, with the former Speaker Phandu T.C. Skelemani in 2022. In his address, The Hon. Speaker highlighted the three roles of Parliament being the Legislative, Representative, and oversight functions as vital in ensuring peace, order, and good governance of the country. Furthermore, The Speaker pointed out that Parliament is a public space where all Batswana are expected to air their views through their Area Members of Parliament. He encouraged the people of Selibe-Phikwe to work well with their Area Members of Parliament and engage them effectively for better representation. The well attended Kgotla meeting was graced by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Helen P. Manyeneng l, Area Members of Parliament Hon. Reuben Kaizer and Hon. Kgoberego Nkawana, as well as the Clerk of the NationalAssembly, Dr. Gabriel Malebang. Hon. Speaker went on to tour the two constituencies offices of Selibe-Phikwe East and West to appreciate the staff and the general upkeep of the offices. The offices have been recently opened to serve the constituents following the General Elections. The first round of The Speaker's tours involving the three areas concludes today, 29th January, at Mmadinare Kgotla.
