The Speaker, Hon Dithapelo L. Keorapetse opened the Budget Analysis Seminar organised for Members of Parliament on Monday, 3rd February 2025, in Gaborone. The Seminar precedes the Budget Meeting that is on the 10th February 2025, and it is designed for MPs to appreciate and understand Budget Cycle and how best to analyse, monitor and track budgets. The Speaker expressed his confidence that the knowledge from this seminar will go a long way in aiding Honourable Members in their daily Parliamentary duties and beyond. The objectives of the seminar whose theme is β€œPromoting effective budgeting for a sustainable economy,” are i) To deepen Members’ understanding on the role of Parliament in the budget process. ii) To enhance basic knowledge in economics and public finance. iii) To enhance the capacity of Members of Parliament to analyze, monitor and track the Budget performance. iv) To strengthen informed debates on the Budget by Members of Parliament. v) To enhance the skills of members to effectively discharge the public finance oversight. vi)To enhance the interface between Parliament, civil society, public finance, and think tanks to enhance knowledge transfer. The seminar which is organised by Parliament of Botswana will end on the 7th of February 2025.
