The Permanent Secretary to the President (PSP), Ms Matshidiso Bokole who is the head of the Public Service appeared before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to account for the overall financial performance of Ministries for the 2022/2023 financial year. The PAC highlighted concerns over poor performance across Ministries, citing issues such as corruption, underutilisation of development budgets and delays in project implementation that lead to cost overruns. The Committee also raised concerns over persistent acting appointments in executive positions, inadequate implementation of PAC recommendations by Ministries, misalignment of government priorities and the unfair administration of surcharges, which are mainly applied to drivers. Ms Bokole acknowledged governance and systematic challenges affecting the Public Service. She stated that the Performance Management Forum is being revamped to strengthen executive decision making and accountability, improve performance and address persistent challenges across Government in a coordinated and holistic approach. Ms Bokole indicated that these efforts are aimed at improving public sector performance and ultimately improving service delivery outcomes for Batswana.
